‘Women must be active in Lagos APGA’

MRS. Anthonia Umeh is the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) woman leader in Lagos State. Recently, she spoke to Daily Sun on how the party is repositioning towards becoming the party to beat in the Lagos. She noted that women in Lagos APGA are set to partake in the new vision of making APGA a national party.

EXCERPTS.
How can APGA promote good governance in Lagos?
APGA is a blessed party with a divine mandate to liberate Nigerians from all manners of oppression. When you look at Nigeria with numerous socio economic problems, you will discover that hardships pervade in the land. In Lagos, the common man had no liberty to move freely. If you are a trader, you face the huddle of KAI, as a transporter, you are faced with LASTMA, while policemen extort Okada riders. These are numerous challenges that APGA in Lagos intend to solve when they take over in Lagos State
What are your roles as woman leader in the state?
Basically, it is to mobilize women in the state to play supportive role towards making the party strong in the state. If you look at the last election, you will discover that we play active role in educating the women on how to exercise their civic rights by voting enmasse for APGA. Although we were rigged out of the election, our impacts are there for all to see. Today, political apathy is a thing of the past among APGA women in Lagos and with new vigor and zest in the party, women are ready to take the party to a higher ground.
Can APGA win elective positions in Lagos?
APGA is a party to beat in Lagos State. With successful National conventions and state party congress, new leaders have emerged. These leaders are ready to implement the dreams of the founding fathers of the party. They are also ready to instill discipline by following party manifestos. In this regard, I commend our chairman, Barrister Kayode Alabi for his exemplary leadership. As a practicing lawyer, Alabi in conjunction with other human rights lawyers are ready to introduce an arrangement whereby victims of human rights abuse can seek succour and redress through the court.
With such arrangements and other innovations in the party, APGA will defiantly win the next election in Lagos.
How can the party play viable opposition in Lagos?
With the defeat of PDP in the just concluded election, the only party that can effectively play the role of opposition at national and state level is APGA. We intend to be constructive in our criticism. By so doing, we would be able to wipe the ruling party into line and ensure good governance in the state.
