Police force ridiculed after appealing for witnesses to stolen BEACH TOWEL on Facebook

Social media has revolutionised the way our police forces interact with the public.
It allows them to appeal for witnesses to crimes and hopefully, if enough people share their post, somebody with information will see it and step forward. It's a perfect match.
But Northumbria Police can't be loving Facebook this week after one of their posts went viral for all the wrong reasons.

Yesterday they published a link to their site appealing for witnesses to the theft of a beach towel, prompting ridicule from hundreds of followers.
